Shakti Challenge for Women 2019
India is experiencing a startup boom just like the other countries in the developing world. This
New India is clearly seeing a revolution when it comes to women entrepreneurs. Being an entrepreneur is tough, but being a woman entrepreneur has got even higher mountains to climb. Enterprises owned by women contribute significantly to enhance livelihood options and provide avenues for income generation to marginalised families. A study by McKinsey Global Institute stated that India’s GDP could increase anywhere between 16% to 60% by 2025 if more women participated in the workforce and contributed to economic growth, But it is easier said than done. |
According to economic census released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, only 14% of the total 58.5 million entrepreneurs in India are women. A woman entrepreneur faces many challenges apart from the traditional hurdles of managing family while running a business, man dominated society and so on. |
Shakti, The Empathy Project is India’s first incubation program for women social entrepreneurs working towards finding solutions to social problems in India. The program’s core focus is on: providing capacity building, mentorship, funding & networking opportunities for the entrepreneur. The biggest strength of the program will be an empowered, committed and vibrant community of women social entrepreneurs.
